Ecommerce Consultant How to sell more online

About Darrin Keller

I'm an accessible technologist. I love technology not for technology's sake but for the potential that is accessible to all of us. I love discussing, teaching and sharing ways to use technology to do something useful.

I've traveled the world using technology as my guide. For example, a couple of years ago I boarded a plane for India in order to meet a company that I had been working with. I had found them on Elance.com and had hired them to build a couple of websites. I was going over to see if I could trust them to do more work. Prior to leaving I found a Guesthouse on Craigslist.com that was a fraction of the cost of a hotel and offered additional cultural insights. I booked my tickets and researched areas of interest online before I left. India's streets are unique in that there really isn't much ryhme or reason to their numbering system so you can't expect numbers to get larger or smaller as you go one direction or another. I could not find one of the places I was trying to find until I found an internet cafe. I called the company using Skype and then I mapped them out using Google Maps. Technology is powerful! Technology is fun! Technology is enabling!

On that trip alone I used the following technology: Internet, skype, digital camera, iPod, laptop and all the accessories that go along with them. I set up a skype account before I left and forwarded my cell phone to it. If someone called my cell phone while I was online, my computer would ring and I would answer it. People had no idea that I was in India. I participated in conference calls with clients and otherwise continued to work while I was literally half a world away.

I travel to get inspiration for business. It's as if you have new eyes when you travel because your mind is open to new things. You begin to see things differently. The key is to NOT pass judgment on the experiences you're having. You have to realize that people and countries are different yet very similar. Because they do things differently doesn't mean it's bad. Once you realize this, you can explore and be delighted with your findings. I've been to Russia, India, France, UK and Canada.
